Pat Tillman Foundation scholarship

The Tillman Scholars program supports our nation’s active duty service members, veterans and military spouses by investing in their higher education at every level, from first-year undergraduates to doctoral candidates. Since the program’s inception, the Foundation has named over 520 Tillman Scholars nationwide.

As a partnering school, our students may apply to be Tillman Scholars and receive financial support to cover traditional study-related expenses such as tuition and books, and other needs. Items covered include (but are not limited to) housing, transportation and childcare. In providing this support, the Pat Tillman Foundation aims to remove obstacles that would otherwise prohibit academic and career success.

Yellow Ribbon Program

The Yellow Ribbon Program pertains to nonresident students using the Post-9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) at the 100% eligibility level. This program is designed to help cover differences between resident and nonresident tuition. Under this voluntary program, institutions can enter into an agreement with the VA to help fund the additional expenses for eligible students. The VA will match each additional dollar funded by the institution, and the combined amounts may not exceed the full cost of the institution’s charged tuition for the VA-approved programs.

For campus-based programs, ASU allocates a limited number of undergraduate and graduate Yellow Ribbon scholarships each year. Students need to apply for the scholarship and may go on a waiting list if all allocations have been filled.

For ASU Online, allocations are not limited at this time. After students establish their eligibility, their Yellow Ribbon funds will be applied automatically.

Military Affiliated Scholarship

The Military Affiliated Scholarship (MAS) was designed for nonresident ASU Online students using the Post-9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) at the 50% to 90% eligibility level. This scholarship helps cover the difference between resident and nonresident tuition.  Scholarship amounts for any given semester are set by taking the full difference between resident and non-resident tuition and multiplying it by the student’s eligibility level percentage. To become eligible for the MAS, submit a valid Chapter 33 Certificate of Eligibility to the Pat Tillman Veterans Center at ptvcforms@asu.edu, if you have not already done so. Qualified students at the 100% eligibility level who are ineligible for Yellow Ribbon will be eligible to receive the MAS at 100%.
