Arizona Tuition Waiver

Also referred to as the Purple Heart Waiver, the Arizona Tuition Waiver scholarship is available through the state of Arizona to support veterans wounded in action or injured in the line of duty, as well as the dependents of service members who have died in the line of duty. This program provides a tuition-free education for eligible individuals pursuing an undergraduate degree at public universities and community colleges in Arizona.

Applicant eligibility

To qualify, applicants must meet specific criteria within designated tiers:

  • Tier 1: veterans with a Purple Heart citation, Arizona residency at the time of injury, and a disability rating of 50% or higher from the VA.
  • Tier 2: unremarried spouses or children (up to age 30) of service members killed in the line of duty.
  • Tier 3: current members of the Arizona National Guard who received a Purple Heart after Sept. 11, 2001.
  • Tier 4: former Arizona National Guard members medically discharged as a result of duty-related injuries.

Application process

Complete the Post-9/11 Tuition Waiver Verification Form and submit necessary documentation to the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services in person or by email to benefits@azdvs.gov.

Please note that ASU does not process or approve these applications.
