Veterans Scholar Program

The Pat Tillman Veterans Center is committed to providing you with an empowering environment for your academic success. That’s why we’re introducing the Veterans Scholar Program, designed to promote engagement in continued service and career preparation.

As participants in the Veterans Scholar Program, eligible student veterans in the last year of their degree program are charged to improve themselves and those around them through professional development and public service. In addition to elevating the excellence mindset that student veterans bring to ASU, the program provides seminars and mentorship, and a financial award upon graduation that can be used for professional development purposes.

If you are interested in continuing to serve your community while elevating your professional prospects, find out more about the Veterans Scholar Program. The application deadline is Sept. 2, 2018.

Devils Adapt Initiative

Are you interested in joining an upcoming class of adaptive athletes? ASU and the Adaptive Training Foundation are collaborating to launch the Image iconDevils Adapt initiative, which aims to provide resources, opportunities and community for adaptive athletes who want to participate in recreation and sports. Experience a total transformation with a nine-week personalized training. Applications for athletes, interns and volunteers at the Tempe campus are now being accepted.

To apply for any of these opportunities, fill out an application by Friday, Aug. 3. The program is scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 20 at the Sun Devil Fitness Complex on the Tempe campus. If you have questions, contact Courtney Smith at Courtney.Spivak@asu.edu.

The traveling advocate

Your military advocate, Shawn Banzhaf, will now be traveling campus-to-campus every week. This is a perfect opportunity for you to meet with him in person to discuss any concerns or challenges you may be facing, whether in your academic or personal life. Remember, we’re in your corner, and we hope you’ll take advantage of this opportunity to come chat. Shawn’s weekly schedule is below.

Mondays and Tuesdays — West campus

Wednesdays — Downtown Phoenix campus

Thursdays — Polytechnic campus

Fridays — Tempe campus

Have you submitted a photo for Project 42?

We still need photos for the Project 42 collage at the Pat Tillman Veterans Center on the Polytechnic campus. Help us fill this commemorative collage in honor of Pat Tillman, and our Sun Devil veteran and military student community and their service. We need photos of you in uniform — in other words, send us your hero shots! Find out more about Project 42 and see some progress shots. You are welcome to submit a photo regardless of where you attend classes.

Student article: Meet your career services liaison

Have you visited the Career and Professional Development Services center on campus? If you haven’t, you might not know that ASU has a career services liaison dedicated to student veterans at the center who can help you with anything from connecting with employers to figuring out your next career step. Read student veteran Ryan Wadding’s article about your student veteran liaison, Katherine Perez.
