Breakout Sessions (details)

1:00 p.m. to 1:50 p.m.

“Duck, Duck, Goose: Balancing Authenticity with Conformity” (presented by Captain Katrina Hill)
Room: Ventana B/C

Zoom: Registration Link
In a professional world where authenticity is prized yet conformity often seems necessary, finding the balance can be challenging. In this presentation, we'll explore how to be true to yourself while operating within an organization that values uniformity.  Learn practical strategies for embracing your own unique strengths and qualities, seeking out mentorship and sponsorship and communicating in a way that works for you.

Stress Management for college students  (presented by Dr. Lisa Benjamin Mitchell)
Room: Pinal

Zoom: Registration Link
Stress management refers to a wide range of techniques and strategies aimed at controlling, reducing, or coping with stress. Stress is the body's response to external pressures or demands, often resulting in physical, mental, or emotional strain. Effective stress management involves identifying stressors, understanding how they affect individuals, and developing techniques to deal with them positively. Join Dr. Mitchell as she explores ideas to manage stress and make the college experience a little less stressful.

Life After Service: Finding New Direction After the Military (presented by Dr. Alicia Ellis, Air Force veteran)
Room: Santa Cruz

Zoom: Registration Link
Whether you’re the military member, the spouse, or the child in a military family, life in the armed forces provides a lot of direction for you: where you live, what you do, who your community is. This is especially true for women, whose dreams and aspirations often take the back seat. Life after the military can leave people feeling adrift, suddenly untethered from their center and unsure how to navigate a new career independently. How do you forge a new path with purpose and direction? Learn about self-discovery and starting anew from a USAF veteran, ASU professor, and former “serial career switcher” in this interactive workshop and discussion.

Independent Dependent  (presented by Lisa Ampil, veteran spouse and Sheena Hayes, veteran and veteran spouse)
Room: Navajo

Zoom: Registration Link
Short breakout session blurb: What does being an independent dependent mean? We often can suffer from the expectations and even the negative connotations of the word "dependent"...as a spouse and a child of a service member. Your decision to go to college is a step forward for you. It is a choice made for you to have something for yourself to be proud of. But how can you work through all the other responsibilities and expectations of being a military dependent while also being an independent college student?

Welcome to “Building Your Life Toolbox: Strategies for a Fulfilling Life” (presented by Amanda Tallman, Army veteran and Sonia Carrasco, Army veteran)
Room: Ventana A

Zoom: Registration Link
In 'The Space We Take: Crafting Identities Beyond the Boundaries of Yesterday,' I share my personal experiences as a military spouse, unfolding how we as a community can reclaim and reshape our identities amidst life's flux, and inspire a collective path towards empowerment and self-renewal.

2:00 p.m. to 2:50 p.m.

Sound Healing by Empowered Vitality  (presented by Emily Melser)
Room: Ventana B/C

Zoom: Registration Link
What is Sound Healing? Sound healing involves using specialized sound frequency waves to create a therapeutic atmosphere , promoting rest, nervous system rebalancing, and emotional release.  These waves are produced by various sources, including healing instruments such as gongs, singing bowls, percussion, chimes, rattles, tuning forks, and the human voice.  What are the benefits of sound healing? Music has been used throughout history to create positive effects on our mood and as a form of therapy to heal the body, mind, and spirit. Many people find that after a sound bath or sound healing, they report an increase in energy, improved mental clarity, increased creativity, Improved sleep, less chronic pain , lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, lower risk of heart disease and better relationships.

A 2016 study found that singing bowl meditation reduced stress, anger, depression, and fatigue, suggesting that sound therapy may be good for your physical, as well as emotional well-being.

Let’s talk about mansplaining and allyship (presented by Kate Dei Cas, veteran spouse)

Mansplaining, the patronizing or condescending explanation often given by a man to a woman, is more than just an annoyance – it's a barrier to open dialogue and inclusive environments.
